Current Stewardship Projects

Stewardship activities have included:

  • Documentation of freshwater wetland habitats and plants on our 64-acre upland site.
  • Amphibian survey
  • Control of thistle (invasive plant, upland)
  • Control of English ivy and English holly (invasive plants, upland)
  • Control of Spartina (invasive plant, salt marsh/mudflat)
  • Monitoring for European green crab (minnow traps)
  • Monitoring for invasive crabs (NERR pilot study) (PDF 830K)
  • Documentation of creosote logs on the shoreline
  • Documentation of tires and other waste on the shorelines
  • Documentation of Scotch broom (invasive plant, shorelines)
  • Participation in NERR Stewardship meetings and activities
Upcoming Stewardship activities:
  • Development of an Upland Management Plan for our 64-acre upland site
  • Removal and disposal of old logs with creosote
  • Removal and disposal of old tires
  • Scotch broom removal and monitoring

Stewardship Resources:

Estuarine Restoration: Estuarine restoration is taking place within proximity to Padilla Bay NERR (such as in the Skagit River delta), but we are not currently implementing any restoration projects. In an effort to gain a better understanding of estuarine restoration and restoration science, we have compiled a list of references, which are representative, not exhaustive. pdf file 55K
