Pro Esteros , B.C.N. Mexico
Founded in 1988 by a group of scientists from Mexico and the U.S., Pro Esteros is the longest established grassroots environmental organization in Baja California. The foremost goal of Pro Esteros is to conserve the coastal wetlands along the Baja California peninsula. The group has worked closely with communities, government agencies and stakeholders to implement its environmental education programs, scientific research and natural resource conservation projects, and environmentally sustainable community capacity building programs. Pro Esteros coordinates the International Brant Monitoring Project in Baja California with schools participating from San Quintin Bay, Guerrero Negro, Punta Abreojos and San Ignacio Lagoon (map).
